The weather

the weather and climate of Mongolia are characterized by its unique geographical location and topography. As you mentioned, Mongolia is situated in the center of the Eurasian continent, far from any coastal influences. The country is surrounded by high mountains, such as the Altai, Khangai, and Khentii ranges, which further contribute to its climatic patterns.

Mongolia experiences an extreme and harsh continental climate with distinct four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Let’s take a closer look at each season:

Spring (March to May): Spring in Mongolia is characterized by a gradual transition from cold winter to warmer temperatures. However, the weather can still be quite unpredictable, with occasional snowfall and temperature fluctuations.

Summer (June to August): The summer season in Mongolia is relatively short but can be hot and dry. Average temperatures can range from comfortable to high, with some areas experiencing temperatures above 30°C (86°F). It is the season with the most rainfall, although rainfall amounts can still be relatively low.

Autumn (September to November): Autumn brings cooler temperatures, especially towards the latter part of the season. It is known for its vibrant colors as the vegetation changes, with golden and red hues covering the landscapes. The weather is generally pleasant, with clear skies and mild temperatures during the day.

Winter (December to February): Winter in Mongolia is long, cold, and snowy. Temperatures can drop well below freezing, with averages ranging from -20°C (-4°F) to -40°C (-40°F) in some areas. The country experiences strong winds and occasional snowstorms, making it a challenging season for travel.

It’s important to note that Mongolia’s climate can vary significantly across its vast territory due to its size and diverse geographical features. The southern regions tend to be drier and hotter, while the northern parts are colder and receive more precipitation.

Mongolia’s extreme continental climate poses challenges for its inhabitants, but it also contributes to the country’s unique natural landscapes and nomadic way of life.

Summer season June, July, August, air temperature is 10-30C and it is hot with rain.

Autumn season: September, October, November, air temperature is 3°…-10°C with a cool breeze

The winter season is December, January, and February, the temperature is -10°…-35°C, and there is snow.
